Lifelong Longview resident and educator Buffe Antilla, 103, passed away peacefully March 9, 2021.
She was one of five children born to Eugene and Lillian May (Fisher) Hall. Buffe graduated from R.A. Long High School and Western Washington University.
Buffe was a beloved teacher at Olympic Elementary School for much of her career, teaching fifth grade in room #9 for many years. She inspired many students over the years with her belief that goodness and potential exists in each of us.
Buffe was a woman of great faith, an expressive storyteller, and an unfailing optimist. She will be remembered as a kind and compassionate lifelong teacher who was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Her inner strength and determination enabled her to live life with passion, enthusiasm, and gusto until the end.
She was an active member of the Washington Retired Teacher’s Association and the Longview 23 Club. Buffe loved the outdoors, gardening and working in her yard. She planted hundreds of trees on her property. She loved watching things grow, including the many students she taught.
Buffe was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and beloved husband, J. William Antilla. She is survived by her three children, Tim, Bill, and Sue Antilla; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and generations of nieces and nephews.
Buffe was laid to rest during a private family inurnment at Longview Memorial Park. A memorial service at the Longview First Christian Church, of which she was a longtime member, will be announced post-pandemic.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in her memory to The Arbor Day Foundation at www.arborday.org.
